The Art of Teaching Ashtanga Yoga | Alignment, Adjustments & Philosophy

Ashtanga Teacher Intensive

In his teacher intensives Grischa is sharing his personal experience of teaching Ashtanga Vinyasa since 2002.
It is the essence of various ideas and approaches of some of the world's most respected Ashtanga teachers today, especially the "internal alignment" patterns that Richard Freeman has been exploring and teaching over the past decades.

Each of your students is always more important than any series, method or tradition. Just because you were taught in a certain way it does not mean that it is is the right way for the person in front of you.

What to expect from this training

Ashtanga Teacher IntensiveEverybody can learn teaching the Ashtanga series, it's numbers, where to gaze and when to grap a toe in a day. All this is important but let's focus on the rather miracolus components of teaching Ashtanga!

This training will deepen your understanding of Yoga and give you insights into the complexity of working with individuals.

Instead of learning "standard adjustments" you will understand the patterns that create intelligent alignment. Inevitably you will end up dicovering thousands of adjustments that you will intuitively use to individually support your students.

Certifi-Fakes

Only personal practice, curiosity, knowledge, concentration, humbleness and compassion can authorize you to teach Yoga, not any "certificate" in the world. Therefore do not consider this training if you believe you need an xxx hours certificate!

If you become a good teacher students will want to learn from you. If you are a bad teacher students will run away from you even if you have 10 "certificates". And would you want to work with a Yoga studio judging you by certificate?

Yoga Sutra - The Meaning of Yoga

Obviously this teacher intensive workshop series is about understanding and teaching Pattabhi Jois' Ashtanga Vinyasa Mysore Style method.

Yet equally important is the in-depth study of Yoga philosophy. The enquiry into the meaning of Yoga is not just a nice-to-have-add-on for teachers, it must be(come) your core of teaching Yoga!

This training incorporates the analysis of Patanjali's Yoga sutra as a starting point into the vast body of yogic knowledge.

Our "In-Class-Training" is our new follow-up program for participants of this training.
Over a period of 3-6 month you have the chance to assist at AYB in one of Ashtanga Yoga Berlin's Mysore classes.
This will allow you get real world experience under supervision of an experienced teacher.

Teach Mysore Style with integrity

In the workshop classes you will be guided through the internal alignment patterns which will be analyzed and transformed into teaching skills and adjustments in the teacher intensive sessions.

We will develop an understanding for "integrity" in Yoga practice and teaching around the following topics:

Ashtanga Teacher Intensive Adjustment

  • Detailed Posture Analysis
  • Understanding of functional, non-technical anatomy
  • Key Ashtanga alignment principles
  • Dealing with the trap of opposites
  • Effortless hands-on adjustments
  • Avoiding and dealing with injuries

Yoga Tradition

There is not much more miracolus than the ancient traditions of Yoga and self-inquiry.

But tradition and family are not the same. "Gurus" insisting on their (family) businesses have caused great damage throughout history.

A Yogi is looking for the truth, not for a father figure.

Weekend Modules

Each module builds up on the previous one so preferably book the whole training.

The topics listed below are just a rough outline. Each posture contains concepts of practically all other postures. We will use the sequencing of the primary series as a red thread. Anyhow we will see how key principles appear in different forms and examine how similar forms differ due to the relation of the body to gravity.
