Yoga Sangha (Community)

The community in which you practice is seen as the most important factor in all spiritual traditions. In Sanskrit, it is called *Sangha*, and this term is especially used in Buddhist lineages.

A Sangha is, at its core, a group of people who share a common interest. You meet after practice, talk, celebrate at a Christmas party, etc. Nothing unusual – it’s what soccer clubs or card groups do too.

What is special about a Yoga Community?

Catholics engage in society and help those in need, Buddhists do it, Anthroposophists... Is the essential contribution of yoga in the West in selfish luxury retreats on the most remote beaches in the world?

When reflecting on the 2017 Mysore Challenge, we realized we carry a certain responsibility to help our small Sangha grow and come alive.

Yoga becomes truly powerful when we share and refine our thoughts in exchange with others.

And beyond that, yoga communities seem to attract particularly inspiring people.

What people do...

Almost everyone we've met over the years has a fascinating background. But some of you are actively engaged in making the world a better place. Here's just a glimpse of what we know some of you are doing:

  • Supporting refugees
  • Working with various NGOs
  • Bringing mindfulness into the business world (SAP Mindfulness Program)
  • Reforming public education by connecting talented minds with schools in need (teachforall.org)
  • Engaging in Buddhist meditation groups
  • ...and much more

What others would like to do...

And many of you would love to contribute in meaningful ways – but it’s not always easy to take the first step when possibilities and obstacles feel overwhelming.

Let’s bring it all together!

Would you like to share your experience and inspire others?

Or would you like to get inspired by what others are doing?

Our vision is simple: Let those who act inspire those who wish to act. So please get in touch!
