Ashtanga Retreats with Grischa (Ashtanga Yoga Berlin)

Ashtanga Yoga Retreat - backbending adjustment

Grischa‘s Ashtanga retreats are inspired by Richard Freeman’s teacher intensives in Boulder, integrating all central components of Yoga practices.

A Ashtanga Retreat is a opportunity to improve your practice dramatically as we look at all aspects of practice in addition to the individual tuition in the Mysore classes. The refined pranayama practices direct your awareness towards the subtle aspects of your nervous system and mental processes. Educate your inner teacher in a systematic way and learn how to avoid and overcome injuries. Finally, learn how only the ancient scriptures can guide your practice and teaching in a meaningful way. There is no difference anyhow.

Contents Overview

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is more than just breathing ujjayi and squeezing the anus. There is more to learn than when to "look navel" or "grab big toe"- Also teaching Asana is a lot more than fixing poses from the the outside.

We will explore in great detail the various principles which can be found in all postures and series' and turn ashtanga into a method rather than just a series of postures. Quality in practice is key, not quantity.

  • Bandhas and breath: The union of prana and apana
  • Mulabandha, your inner guru!
  • Samastitih, the universal form!
  • Integrational patterns from the feet to the hands
  • Action, counter action, union and beyond. Understanding opposites
  • Spirals, counterspirals, intertwined spirals
  • Arms as visible expressions of mula bandha: Sun Salutations and shoulder miracles
  • Standing postures: Proper leg work, forward bends, hip openers, balancing
  • Wisdom in Yoga: The end of dogmatic teaching!
  • Intelligence is the teacher, not force
  • and much more...
